SNIDER, Alma ‘Joan’

1949 – 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Alma ‘Joan’ Snider (née Jensen), a devoted wife and mother, a cherished grandmother and beloved sister, taken too soon on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the age of 76 years.

Joan loved her family, her friends and her community. She enjoyed travelling, camping, gardening and mini adventures. She was a tireless worker, retiring from the Innisfail Meat Packers after many years. She enjoyed meeting people and sharing her generosity of spirit. Joan and her husband Dave are active in their church, Innisfail Alliance, and enjoyed spending time with their church family. Above all else, she loved her family and kept her connections strong. She lived a life of loyalty, determination, support and caring.

Joan is lovingly remembered by her husband, Dave Petersen, never did a day go by where she didn’t express her joy at finding him. She was predeceased by her first husband, Alan, and will be deeply missed by their children, Shane (Alison), Christina (Daniel), Jason (Robin), Carmen (Sébastien) and grandchildren, Brett, Alexandra, Ken, Bryan, James, Michael, Katie, David, Eric, Max, Will, Anakin, Zachary and Véronica. Joan was raised on the family farm outside Ponoka, Alberta, along side four siblings. She is survived by her brothers, Archie (Marian), Tom (Florence), and Eric (Dale) and her sister, Sadie (Bill). She was much loved by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was proud of her bonus family, Pam, Darren, Justin, Ashley and Brandon and their spouses and children. Joan was also predeceased by her parents, Maxwell and Agnes (née Fisher) Jensen.

The family would like to thank all of the friends who helped her in her time of need and the medical staff at the Innisfail Health Centre and the Central Alberta Cancer Centre at Red Deer Regional Hospital.

A Funeral Ceremony for family and friends was held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at the Innisfail Alliance Church, 4804 – 42 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta. A Private Family Graveside will be held at the Innisfail Cemetery. If desired, Memorial Donations in Joan’s honor may be made to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre at 3942 – 50A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 4E7.
