Helen June Grimson
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helen June Grimson (nee Pugh) at the age of 93.
Helen passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, the 19th of October at CollegeSide Gardens where she had been living independently for the last year and a half.
She is survived by her four loving children; Anne Sisson (Pete), Kathy Classon (Peter); Doug Grimson (Annlee) and Ken Grimson (Trudy). She, “Gran”, is also survived and will be dearly missed by her 8 grandchildren; Nicolla Reimer, Ryan Grimson, Douglas Clavier, Robert Sisson, Leah Steeneveld, Karly Leslie, Nathan Grimson and Mark Grimson. She was predeceased by her dear husband Earl and her grandson Kristofer. She was also the proud great grandmother to 18 great grandchildren. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and neighbours to mourn her passing.
Earl died in 2001 and Helen carried on to live a full and caring life on her own at Leafy Ridge Farm, south of Sylvan Lake until she moved into the Independent Living Facility at CollegeSide Gardens in Red Deer in March of 2024.
Helen never lost touch with her Scottish heritage, proudly tracing her roots back to the Gordon Clan. She was an active member of several community groups throughout the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake areas, including the Alberta Women’s Institute where she helped foster friendship and connection among women throughout the Sylvan Lake and Burnt Lake communities.
She was a gifted seamstress and a creative soul. Helen could turn simple fabric into something beautiful. She made many of her daughter’s clothes and even made some clothes for Earl. She earned prizes at the Red Deer Fair and Exhibition for her sewing and cooking. She was an avid cook and is famous for her home made bread, legendary cinnamon buns and her chocolate chip cookies.
She will forever be remembered for her warmth, her determination, her sense of humour and for the love she gave her family.
Helen will be laid to rest beside Earl in the family plot at the Burnt Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please consider supporting STARS AIR AMBULANCE in Helen’s memory.
A graveside service is planned for Saturday, November 1st, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Burnt Lake Cemetery.
