Charles Lawrence Spreadbury (Larry)
November 20, 1931 – October 18,2025
With sad hearts the family of Larry Spreadbury announce his passing.
Larry was born in Calgary, Alberta and lived there until 2015 when he moved to Victoria Park Seniors Residence in Red Deer.
Most commonly known as Larry, when he started at BA Oil Refinery in 1949, he chose to go by Charlie at work and that continued through to his retirement from Gulf Oil In 1986.
In June 1952 Larry married his soul mate and love of his life, Margaret Marshall. Together they were involved in virtually all aspects of Church life at St. Mathew’s United Church Calgary. They were avid square dancers, loved travelling, and were especially attached to their Group 25 campsite near Caroline.
Larry was an incredible example of someone who put others before him. His faith was a priority; he adored his wife Marg; he loved and was so proud of his children David and Carol; lovingly embraced their spouses and treasured his grandchildren, then great-grandchildren. He was a caring friend. He reached out to offer help to whoever and whenever he could. He was generous, kind, compassionate and had a very quick and funny sense of humour. Many stories could he told about “Grandad”. Larry enjoyed fishing, camping, running, painting, calligraphy and games.
He is survived by son David (Yvonne), daughter Carol (Harvey) Maskowitz, grandchildren Craig (Joslynn) Spreadbury, Sandra (Josh) Finley, Darren (Rachel) Maskowitz, Nathan (Ashley) Maskowitz, Jason (Meaghan) Maskowitz, thirteen great-grandchildren, sister Joan (Gordon) Moore, and sister in-law Pat Spreadbury. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, brother Bob (sister in-law Shirley), and brother Gord.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Blvd., Red Deer on Monday, November 3, 2025 at 1:00p.m
