ROSS, Sherry
1962 – 2025
Sherry Lee Ross of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Hospice Society on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the age of 63 years. She was born on May 18, 1962 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and lived most of her life in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta and Red Deer, Alberta. Sherry attended Red Deer College as a young mother and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She spent her career serving her patients at the Red Deer Regional Health Centre on units twenty-one and thirty-five. As a registered nurse, Sherry was a fearless advocate of all in her care. Her work ethic, diligence and compassion gained her the respect of her peers and the gratitude of those she served. Sherry was a true “mama bear”, a strong woman who cared deeply for her family. She took a leave of absence to become a liver donor to her first grandson, returning to her career of serving shortly afterward. Sherry took great joy watching her son and grandchildren grow and mature. She was a trusted medical consultant to all she loved. Sherry was a “lifesaver” in every sense of the word, both in her career and in her private life. She loved puzzles, diamond art and crafting with her grandchildren and friends. Her love of medical mysteries and murder mysteries was known to all who loved her. Sherry had a green thumb and loved her flower beds. All living things thrived in her presence, human, animal or plant. She held a bond with her mother, Sharon, that was unbroken by Sharons passing in 2019 as she kept her love and sharp wit alive until her end. Sherry fought cancer in every way possible and survived long enough to take great pride in her son’s growth, a strong father and protector of his daughter, Aria, the shining star of Sherry’s final years. She faced her death with welcoming acceptance and great peace and awaited her walk with Jesus. Sherry amazed those who cared for her at the Red Deer Hospice Society and all who came to say goodbye as she was as courageous in death as she was in life. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Darren Ross, her father, William Chomeczko, her son, Damien RedHot, her three grandchildren and her great grandchild. Sherry will also be deeply missed by her brother, Billie Chomeczko and her sister, Shannon Chomeczko. She was predeceased by her mother, Sharon Chomezcko nee Lowry. A Celebration of Sherry’s Life was held at the Bower-Kin Community Centre, 85 Boyce Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations may be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society at reddeerhospice.com.
