With sad hearts, we announce the passing of Estelle Becker (née Barteluk) on October 7, 2025, in Red Deer, Alberta.
Estelle was born in Val Marie, Saskatchewan, but spent most of her growing-up years in Outlook, where her parents ran the Lyric Theatre. This no doubt inspired her lifelong love of movies! After high school, she moved to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan, where she became one of the first female students to complete a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
It was in Saskatoon where she met Don Becker. They happened to be staying at the same boarding house, and it was love at first sight! They married in 1958 and started their family in Moose Jaw. Don’s work eventually took the family to Alberta, where they settled first in Lacombe and then in Red Deer in the late 1960s.
Later on, Estelle became the secretary of St. Mary’s Parish, a role she held for several years. Estelle excelled in more than administrative duties. She became known for her kindness and compassion and her dedication to the St. Mary’s community.
Estelle eventually joined the community of CollegeSide Gardens, where she made many lasting friendships and will be remembered as a kind and loving person who liked to offer compliments and hugs.
Estelle was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Josephine Barteluk; her brother, Allan Barteluk; her husband, Don Becker; and her son-in-law Steve Hallford. She will be lovingly remembered by daughters Leslie Patrick (Mark Patrick), Nancy Becker Hallford, and Amy Becker (Fernanda Aveleyra); grandchildren Stephanie Patrick (Mike Migliara), and Daniel McMullen and Nicole McMullen (Prince Opoku), and their father, John McMullen (Teresa Swenson); several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel, Dr. Furlani, and the many wonderful staff from the Heart Function Clinic and Home Care. We offer a very special thank you to everyone at CollegeSide Gardens as well. The kindness you’ve all shared with Estelle has been such a blessing.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:30 p.m
