MCKINNON, Joshua
1989 – 2025
Joshua McKinnon of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 29, 2025 at the age of 35 years. He was born in Calgary, Alberta on December 13, 1989, and spent his early years in Hanna, Alberta before moving to Red Deer, Alberta in 2002 where he spent the rest of his life. Joshua always held a special feeling for Hanna, a place where he developed many long-term friendships. Especially with the hockey gang, Dustin, Skyler and Devon. He proudly received his high school diploma in Red Deer, a carpentry certificate and a welding certificate from Red Deer College. Joshua loved to cook and early on worked at several restaurants, including his favorite the Rusty Pelican. The kitchen was his at home and he always gave advice on how to improve your cooking, most noticeably the addition of fried onions with every meal. He worked several jobs in the construction industry, including work for Pro-Form Industries. Joshua was an excellent concrete worker and was especially proud of the work he did at the Westener grounds, Calgary Airport, Town of Stettler and the sidewalk work at the house. Working construction until a back injury and a dependency problem prevented him from doing further work. Joshua is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his mother, Tannis. He also holds a special place in the hearts of his aunt, Valerie, his special friend, Chelsea Coates and his uncle, Donald who lost his best friend. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Lillian McKinnon, his grandfather, William McKinnon, his aunt, Sandra Morrow and his uncle, John McKinnon. Rest in peace, there will never be another Joshua. A Celebration of Joshua’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations may be made to Turning Point at turningpoint-ca.org.
