MORGAN, Esther (Olsen)
1947-2025
It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Esther Rosalyn Mary (Olsen) Morgan announce her passing on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the age of 78 years. Esther was born on April 24, 1947, in Newmarket, Ontario, the third child of the late Eva and Kenneth Olsen. She passed away in Ponoka, Alberta, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous journey with Aphasia and Alzheimer’s disease. Esther grew up in Newmarket, where she discovered her lifelong love of music, excelling at piano, singing, volleyball, and figure skating. She attended Canadian Nazarene College in Winnipeg, where she met the love of her life, Ed Morgan. Esther later transferred to Eastern Nazarene College in Massachusetts before completing her Bachelor of Arts in Education at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. There she also taught Grade 5, beginning a lifetime of encouraging young people. Esther and Ed were married in August 1969, celebrating 56 years of marriage this past summer. They settled in Sundre, Alberta, where Ed joined his father at Sundre Motors and Esther poured her talents into teaching piano, volunteering in schools, and raising their four daughters. She was a loving mother and Gramsie to Lisa (Ryan Bloomer, son Konner), Kara (Aeric Waymire, daughter Braea and son Maddox), Danielle (Adam Brandt, sons Aidan, Theo, and Silas), and Jaimee (Martin Graham, daughters Amy and Georgia).
Family was at the heart of Esther’s life. She was known for her unshakable support at her daughters’ school and sports activities, her boundless enthusiasm (and original chants), and her open-door hospitality that made her a beloved “second mom” to many. Her nieces and nephews remember her quick wit, compassion, and the way she made each one feel like her “favourite.”
A woman of faith, joy, and humor, Esther embraced community life in Sundre as an active member of the Christian Women’s Club and countless volunteer efforts. She had a gift for laughter, costumes, and entertaining and brightened every gathering she attended. In retirement, she and Ed enjoyed winters in Arizona, where Esther was a lively participant in golf, social events, and theatre productions. In later years, as she faced the challenges of Aphasia and Alzheimer’s, Esther continued to radiate warmth, humor, and love. Even without words, she found ways to make others smile, to comfort, and to mischievously speak her mind. Esther is lovingly remembered and will be forever cherished by her devoted husband Ed, her four daughters and their families, her sister Glenna (Glenn Boden), her brothers Malcolm (Carol) Olsen, David (Judy) Olsen, and sister-in-law Connie Olsen. She was predeceased by her grandson Arie Brandt, niece Christine Harris, brother Melvin Olsen, and sisters-in-law Joanell, Charlotte and Rose Olsen, and brother in law Ken McIvor. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends, and all those who were touched by her life. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with her Savior and loved ones who went before her. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Mountain View Seniors Housing Dementia Unit in Sundre and the staff of the Aurora House Unit of Centennial Center in Ponoka. A celebration of Esther’s life will be held at the “Diamond in the Rough” Event Venue (345042 Range Road 44, Clearwater County, Alberta, T0M 1X0) on Saturday, October 18th at 2:00pm. Donations may be made to Sundre Hospital Futures in her memory, at www.sundrehospitalfutures.com.
