It is with deep sadness that the family of Mr. George Roy Toone of Sundre, Alberta, announces his passing on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the age of 85 years. George passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. He was born on July 11, 1940, in Calgary, Alberta, to Johanna and Roy Toone. In 1962, George moved to Sundre and began working at Sundre Sales and Service alongside his father. Over 38 years, he became the owner and parts manager, working closely with his brother Barry Toone. On December 31, 1964, George married the love of his life, Patricia (Rankin). Together they raised three children and shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. George was known for his sense of humor, outgoing nature, and unwavering dedication to hard work. In 1998, at the age of 58, George started a new chapter at the Sundre Golf Club. While working there, he also attended Olds College, earning his Turf Management Diploma. He remained with the Golf Club for 20 years, officially retiring at the age of 78. In retirement, George enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. Known for his admirable work ethic, George also gave generously of his time as a volunteer firefighter with the Sundre Fire Department for over 25 years, and as an assistant coach for his sons’ hockey team. George is survived by his wife Patricia (Rankin); sons Michael (April) and Randy (Lori-Anne); grandchildren Warren, Nya, and Eve; brother Barry (Brenda) and family; Linda and Clinton Straub and family; and Jim and Kerry Rankin and family. He was predeceased by his daughter Joan Mary Stein, son Robert Roy Toone, and his parents, Johanna and Roy Toone. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sundre Golf Club (514 AB-27, Sundre, AB) on Saturday, October 4, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to drop in and share memories, laughter, and stories of George’s life. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Mountain View Seniors Housing Dementia Unit in Sundre.
