Mr. Gerald Douglas “Doug” Penney passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the age of 77 years. Doug was born in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador, on April 19, 1948, where he fell in love with East Coast fishing and the great outdoors. Doug married the love of his life, Elizabeth, in 1972, and stayed at her side for 53 years until his passing. Doug loved fishing and camping anywhere he could, as long as he was with his family. He honoured his heritage by listening to Newfoundland music and always following the Newfoundland news. Described as quiet and easygoing, Doug was known for always lending a helping hand to whoever needed it.
Doug is lovingly remembered by his wife, Elizabeth; his son, Bradley Penney; his daughters, Michelle Brandon, Cynthia Adams, and Vanessa Penney; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his brother, Don Penney; and numerous dear friends. Doug is predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Penney; his brothers, Jim, John, Ray, and Cyril; and his sister Josephine.
No funeral service will be held as per Doug’s request. If desired, Memorial Donations in Doug’s honour may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society at www.cancer.ca.
