Mrs. Donna Irene Latimer (Gourley) of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at The Hamlets, Red Deer County, Alberta on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the age of 86 years. Donna was born in 1938 in Lloydminster, Alberta and grew up on a farm in the Alcurve District with her parents, Alex and Irene, and siblings, Rick and Doreen. She attended school in Kitscoty, Alberta and after graduation she moved to Lloydminster, Alberta where she attended Reeves Business College and later worked at CKSA. Donna met and married Joe Gourley in June of 1961, together they moved to Vermilion, Alberta and raised their two children, Tim and Jo-Ann. Donna loved to care for her family, she enjoyed helping in the garden, picking berries, and spending time at her parents’ farm. She was also involved in a number of women’s organizations, such as the Eastern Star, Women’s Institute, and the ladies group at Island Hill School. In 1986, her devoted husband Joe passed away, and in 1988 she married William ‘Ted’ Latimer. Together they lived in Onoway, Alberta. While there, Donna was involved with the Onoway Royal Canadian Legion, Lutheran church ladies, and volunteered for the Blueberry Music Festival for many years. In 2023, Donna and Ted moved to Red Deer, Alberta, where they currently resided. Donna loved spending time and being with family and her grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, William ‘Ted’ Latimer, her son, Tim Gourley (Darlene), her daughter, Jo-Ann Symington (Calvin), and her three grandchildren, Braden, Jared and Breanne. She will also be deeply missed by her brother, Rick McKay (Lori), and her sister, Doreen Gourley (Tom). Donna was predeceased by her parents, Joan ‘Irene’ and George ‘Alex’ McKay, and her first husband, Joe Gourley.
A Celebration of Donna’s Life was held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer, Alberta. A Public Visitation was also held from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. prior to the Celebration of Life. A Public Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vermilion Catholic Cemetery, Vermilion, Alberta. Following the Graveside Service, a luncheon will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 11, 5144 Railway Avenue, Vermilion, Alberta.
