At the age of 75 years.

Joan was born in Olds, AB, on May 5, 1950, and passed away Friday, August 29, 2025, after bravely battling more than one health issue for most of her life.

Except for short periods living in Red Deer and Edmonton, Joan spent her entire life residing in Sundre, and her beautiful Bearberry Valley. She graduated from Sundre High School, and had a good career as a dietician at Red Deer Michener Center and also the Edmonton General Hospital.

In 1974, she and her son Michael moved to Sundre, and soon built their own home in Bearberry, on land next to her parents. This land is where she resided until her passing. She completed an accounting course, and kept ledgers balanced and offices running smoothly for small businesses in Sundre, until her retirement.

She is survived by her son Michael (Maya) Locken; her grandchildren, Josh and Jacob; her sister Karen Leacock; her brother Earl (Lana Burrell) Locken; many nieces and nephews, who all loved her very much; as well as numerous other family, friends, and neighbours.

Joan was predeceased by her father, Hans Locken; her mother, Gladys Locken; her brothers, Raymond, and John (Karen) Locken; her sister, Denise (Ronald) Bredin; her brother-in-law, Sandy Leacock; and nephew Wayne Bredin.

At Joan’s request, a private family gathering will be held at a later date in the future.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Joan Locken encourage Memorial Donations in her honour to be made to any charity of choice.
