Mrs. Sheila Schmick (Morrice) of Carstairs, Alberta passed away at Aspen Ridge Lodge in Didsbury, Alberta on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at the age of 89 years.
Sheila was born in Marcelin, Saskatchewan on January 19, 1936, being the sixth child of eight born to Edward and Chrissie Morrice. The family moved to Leask, Saskatchewan from St. Fergus, Scotland in the Spring of 1926. Then in the fall of 1926 moving 2.5 miles northwest of Marcelin, which was where the family farm was established.
Sheila acquired her Grade 12 education at Marcelin school, followed by a business course after graduating. Her time was also then spent helping her parents on the family farm.
At twenty- eight years of age, Sheila moved to Carstairs, Alberta marrying Edward Schmick on September 1, 1964. The couple made residence on the original family homestead east of Carstairs. They had two children, a son James and a daughter Brenda.
Sheila enjoyed helping on the farm during harvest, then in 1981 she started working off the farm and managing and working at Carstairs, Olds and the Didsbury Golf Course kitchens throughout the years. In 2008 she moved to Carstairs and resided there until moving into Aspen Ridge Lodge in 2020.
Sheila has always had a love for flowers, which was always evident in her yard. Petunias and pansies were her flower of choice. The last five years that she lived at Aspen Ridge Lodge were kept busy in the summer maintaining the flowers for everyone to enjoy.
Sheila will be lovingly remembered by her son James (Sandra) Schmick and her daughter Brenda (Michael) Galye. Her grandchildren Joesph (Jennifer) Schmick, Holly Sutherland (Dylan Johnston) and Cole Sutherland. Her great grandchildren Erika, Ian and Lena Schmick, and Everly Johnston. Her sister Margaret Bazarkiewicz and several nieces and nephews.
Sheila is predeceased by her spouse Edward, parents Edward and Chrissie Morrice, brothers Edward, Alexander, Albert and Raymond Morrice, and sisters Nellie Brad and Edith Kindrachuk.

A Celebratory Come and Go Tea will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Carstairs Half Century Club, 1139 Osler St, Carstairs, Alberta.
