It is with deep sorrow that the family of Ronald Mapletoft announces his passing on September 8, 2025, at the age of 91.
Ron was born on July 4, 1934, in Hondo, Alberta, to Percy and Ida Mapletoft. The family later settled in Calgary, where Ron spent his youth playing hockey and baseball, lending a hand to his father in homebuilding, and forming lifelong friendships with ease and warmth.
He began his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway before moving to Red Deer, where he worked at the Pacific 66 service station. It was there, at the Buffalo Hotel Café, that he met his wife, Kathy. They married in 1962 and soon took over the Port O’Call Petro Canada service station. In 1969, they joyfully welcomed their son, Darcy.
A devoted husband, father, and community member, Ron spent many years running his business, volunteering locally, and offering help to anyone in need. His generosity, work ethic, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Ron will be deeply missed by his son Darcy (Beth), and his grandchildren Jocelyn (Noah) and Gavin. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Elsie Bateyko, his brother Richard (Edna), and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Kathy; his parents Percy and Ida; and his brother Bob.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 19th, 2025 at 1:00 PM at St. Luke’s Anglican Church (4929 54th Street, Red Deer, Alberta).
