RUST, Anne
1940 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anne Rust of Red Deer on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the age of 85 years. Gertrude “Anne” Rust (née Gordon) was born in Hanna on July 27, 1940. She was the oldest of three children and was raised on a farm in Roselynn. After high school, Anne moved to Edmonton to pursue a Bachelor of Science, then received a Bachelor of Education in Calgary. She got her first teaching job in Calgary before meeting Ernest Rust. They were married in 1964 and welcomed their first son, James, in 1966, followed by their second son, Robert, in 1969. While being a farm wife and mother, Anne taught at Hanna High School, Homestead Coulee School, and the Handhills Hutterite Colony. Over the years, she was actively involved in the Bull Pound Community Association, Rural Crime Watch, the church choir, and many other clubs. Her passion for painting and quilting filled much of her time, and the rest was spent gathering for special occasions and playing card games. In 2008, she and Ernie relocated to Red Deer as she would eventually need to travel for kidney dialysis. In February 2022, she underwent a kidney transplant, becoming the oldest patient to do so at age 82. Her love for singing continued with the Golden Circle Choir in Red Deer until the Lord called her to His banquet in Heaven. Anne will be lovingly remembered by her two sons; James (Cheryl) of Calgary and Robert (Arlene) of Lacombe; her brother, Greg (Karen) of Hanna; her sister, Peggy of Calgary; and her five grandchildren: Vanessa (Peter), Patrick, Taryn (Payden), Jayden, and Oryanna. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Rust, and her parents, Agnes and Harry Gordon. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5508 – 48A Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend Father Andrew Bogdanowicz, Celebrant. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
