MOORE, Robert Lawrence
1947 – 2025
Mr. Robert Lawrence “Bob” Moore of Red Deer County passed away peacefully on August 3, at the age of 78, surrounded by his children at his home. He was affectionately known as Welder Bob. Bob is survived by his children Kendra, Lisa (Steven), Kristina (Christopher) and Jeff (Jalene), as well as his grandchildren Tyson, Kaylem and Peyton, and many extended family members and friends. Bob is predeceased by his parents Florence and Melville, his sister Joyce, and his brother Dennis. Bob was born in Wolseley, Saskatchewan and resided in Lemberg until 1958 when they moved to Fort Qu’Appelle. Bob’s hard work ethic started after his father passed. He told stories of how he delivered groceries on his bicycle for ten cents a delivery to help his family. In the late 1960’s Bob moved to Calgary to pursue a welding career and worked for Freunoff Trailers. In 1971 he moved to Miller and Brown for work before relocating to Red Deer in September of 1972 where he started his own welding shop, Bob’s Welding. In 1973 Bob partnered and formed M & M Arc, and after the shop burned down, went on to form various businesses such as Golden West Steel, Goldec International, Truck Town, and Goldec/Hamms Tanks. Once Bob decided to semi-retire, he sold Goldec/Hamms and took the Log Wizard company to keep him busy. He fully retired in 2002. Aside from work, Bob led an exciting and fun-filled life. He loved teaching people and went to Africa numerous times to build a welding shop and guide the locals on wheelchair production. Bob enjoyed trail riding with the horses in the mountains, camping, fishing, building anything and everything (there was nothing he couldn’t do), sledding, golfing, target shooting, and spending time cruising on his motorcycle. He loved watching the hummingbirds at his feeders and would make note of when they arrived and left each year. He spent endless hours restoring classic cars. Many winters were spent in Thailand to avoid our cold Alberta climate and recently he wintered in Palm Springs and Texas. He would tell you his backpack had been around the world three times. Our Dad cherished his family, treasured friendships, and adored his cats. He embraced every moment with a full heart. A straight shooter who always told it like it was. He lived with honesty and purpose. His legacy is one of love, laughter and a life well lived. LUT
