COPELAND, James
1939 – 2025
Mr. James ‘Al’ Alastair Copeland passed away at Bethany CollegeSide, on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the age of 85 years. Al was born on October 30, 1939 at Thorold, Ontario to James and Janet (nee Ker). Al worked at Loblaws as a meat cutter for many years. He volunteered as a firefighter in Fort Erie, Ontario and Ridgeway, Ontario. With great love for their grandchildren, Al and Karen quit their jobs in Ontario and moved to Alberta. They refurbished an old grocery store in Endiang, turning it into the Endiang Teahouse. Even though the Hamlet had only the Post Office, Community Hall and a few homes, people came far and wide to indulge in Karen’s sweets, Al’s hospitality, and their famous pizza nights. After living in Hanna for a while, a move to Red Deer occurred. Al enjoyed vacationing, motorcycles, and watching NASCAR racing with his son. After sixty-four years married and seventy years together, Karen still wonders how he “put up” with her. Al will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen; daughters, Charlene and Cathlene; son, James Cory (his wife, CJ); eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Al will also be sadly missed by numerous family members and dear friends. Al was predeceased by his sisters, Joan, Jean, Janet and June. A Celebration of Al’s Life will be held at the Social Room at the Sierras of Heritage Village, 5300-48 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Al’s honor may be made directly to the Diabetes Canada at www.diabetes.ca. or to Parkinson Canada at www.parkinson.ca.
