FOWLER, Joan
1934 – 2025
It is with deep sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of our Dear Mother, Diane ‘Joan’ Fowler on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the age of 91 years. Joan was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on January 21, 1934 to parents Jack and Mina Ward.
Joan graduated from Moncton High in June of 1951 and went on to graduate from Success Business College. She handled administration for the Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation and taught Business College Night School for three years. Joan then married John Walter Fowler on March 10, 1956 and shortly thereafter moved to Calgary, Alberta where John completed his articling in law. One year later, they moved to Red Deer, Alberta where they settled.
Over the years in Red Deer, Joan was on the Executive of several organizations, taught Sunday School, played the piano and enjoyed being a reading buddy to the kids at G.H. Dawe School. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and thoroughly enjoyed her volunteer work. Joan worked for twenty-five years at Eastview School, loved her job and those she worked with. She began as Staff Secretary, moved to Administration Secretary and on to Office Manager, retiring in 1999 at the age of 65 years.
Joan loved the outdoors, enjoyed camping, boating, walking and travelling. Destinations included the United States, Great Britain, Europe, Mexico, Italy, Philippines and cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and Hawaii. Joan often mentioned her vivid ariel view of the beautiful tulip fields on her approach to Holland. She also enjoyed playing cards, cribbage and bridge being her favorite, dancing up a storm and attending musical jams. She was known to always love a good joke!
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her children; her son, Douglas Fowler (Dale) of Ottawa; her daughters, Karen Albus (Chris) of London, Ontario and Valerie Dzaman-Berg (Calvin) of Kelowna, British Columbia; her grandchildren, Samuel Fowler, Hannah Gerguis (Mena), Taylor Dzaman and Tyler Berg; her brothers, Linus Ward (Barbara) of North Shore, Ontario, David Ward of North Mountain, Nova Scotia; nieces and nephews.
