Gauthier, Ruth
1961 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Ruth Gauthier of Sylvan Lake (Formerly Fort McMurray), Alberta, announces her passing on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the age of 63 years. Ruth was born on December 8, 1961, to Lila and Clouston Hancock in Deer Lake, Newfoundland. She was the eldest sister to Fred, Rob, and Kim. Ruth moved to Fort McMurray in 1994 with her young daughter, Ashley, to start a career as a hairstylist. She was an amazing stylist with a dedicated clientele. It was here that she met one of her newest clients, Euclid. They married on February 8, 2008, on the island of Antigua. Two weeks later, Ruth was thrilled to become a grandmother when her grandson Noah was born. In 2011, Ruth’s heart expanded to include her granddaughter, Emily. Simply put, Ruth loved exploring life and took great joy in her grandkids. She and Euclid took every opportunity to travel—whether it was camping up north, snowmobiling and quadding, or taking their travel trailer into the United States. We are devastated that she is no longer with us, but we take great comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain. Her perseverance and stubbornness were her greatest strengths during her illness. Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Euclid; her daughter, Ashley; and her grandchildren: Noah, Emily, Mallory, Kaylen, Cody, Sam, and Kessler. She is also survived by her brothers Fred Hancock and Rob (Trudy) Hancock, and her sister Kim (Johnny) Tobin, who feel her loss deeply. Her extended family includes her nieces Debra (Blakely, Zander, and Cade) and Alex, and her nephews Cooper and Carter. Euclid’s children, Marc (Tammy) and Michelle (Pat), warmly welcomed Ruth into their family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at reddeerhospice.com. It was there that Ruth spent her final moments in peace, lovingly cared for while her family kept vigil. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
