Ronnie “Ronster / Koop” Weiland
March 27, 1954 – July 22, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Ronnie Weiland at home on July 22, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born on March 27, 1954, Ronnie—affectionately known as “Ronster” or “Koop”—lived a life full of love, laughter, and loyalty to family, friends, and the game of hockey. His passion for the sport led him through a well-rounded hockey career, both here in Canada and abroad, leaving an enduring mark on those he played with and mentored.
Ron was a devoted father to Paul Weiland (Stacey) and Kurt Weiland (Kendra), and a proud grandfather to Hadley, Natalie, Ronnie, and Koop. He also leaves behind his beloved grandpups, Charlie and Packer, who brought him endless joy. He was predeceased by his father Koop, mother Tetje, brother Ed, and sister Alice.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Ron served the City of Red Deer for over 30 years as a heavy equipment operator before retiring. He was known for his strong work ethic and big heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Red Deer Curling Rink on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. In true Ronster fashion, everyone is encouraged to bring their skates and sticks—ice time has been reserved at the Servus Arena next door from 1:00–3:00 p.m. Let’s pay tribute to Ron in the place he loved most: on the ice. Following the skate, a celebration will continue back at the curling rink from 3:00–10:00 p.m. Come share memories, laughter, and stories as we celebrate the incredible person Ron was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Hockey Alberta’s “Every Kid Every Community” Grant, helping support youth hockey in Central Alberta—something Ron deeply believed in.
He leaves behind a legacy of grit, kindness, and deep love for his family and the game. He will be dearly missed. Condolences to the family may be made by visiting www.eventidefuneralchapels.com
