ESTEVES, Domingos
1932 – 2025
Mr. Domingos Esteves of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the age of 93 years. Domingos was born in the small northern Portuguese village of Soajo on July 3, 1932. He emigrated to Canada as a young man; working various jobs as he travelled west from Halifax. He settled in Edmonton and met Janet who would be his wife for the next 55 years. Domingos became a skilled, hardworking member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 488. Welding took Domingos all over the province of Alberta and beyond as he laboured unselfishly to ensure his family never went without. Janet and Domingos raised two children: Greg Esteves and Cindy Gillespie. He was a proud “Papa” to three grandchildren: Kailyn, Sophia, and Gabriel. His grandchildren were the light of his life in his later years, and he reveled in teaching them, playing with them, and showing them his home country. He will be greatly missed by his “netos” and the rest of his family and friends. Domingos was an extremely active member of the Portuguese Canadian community in Edmonton and had a central role in the construction of the Portuguese Cultural Center.
