Wayne Arthur Pedersen of Red Deer AB passed away due to complications from pancreatic cancer at the Red Deer Hospice on June 8, 2025 at the age of 72 years.
Wayne was the youngest of five children born to Art and MaryAnn Pedersen. He grew up on a small farm near Lacombe and went to school in Lacombe for grades 1 to 12. He always had a love of nature and most wild animals. At the age of 12, he asked Jesus to forgive his sins and become Lord of his life – best decision ever. He was creative and loved most anything in the arts. He achieved Grade 5 piano and wanted to go into Architecture. After High School, Wayne received his Bachelor of Science, followed by a Bachelor of Education, A Diploma in Bible, and a Master of Arts in Education (Instruction and Curriculum).
In 1974, Wayne married Jean Boomer ( the 2nd best decision of his life) and they had a wonderful life together. On May 25, 2025 they celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. They have three adult children (Jonathan, Melody, and Karen – Karen died in 2014 of pancreatic cancer). They also adopted 3 of their grandchildren – Jesse, Elianna, and Isabella who have all been a great help and joy over the years. They also have 4 other grandchildren.
Wayne started training toward being a registered architect in Lyle Hallett’s architect office in Calgary when God called him into full time missions with Christian Service Brigade. He was involved with CSB since teenage years when he earned their highest award – the Herald of Christ. He served full time with CSB for over 20 years in various capacities including camp work each summer and writing leadership training materials that went all across Canada.
Off and on Wayne had taught Jr/Sr High Math and Bible and ended up teaching for over 20 years as well in Christian schools. He valued family vacations and loved to travel. He also highly valued integrity, moral ethics, Bible study and memorization, getting together for coffee with other men, church life and singing with the Parkland Men’s Choir. He always wanted God to get maximum glory and did everything with full energy and urgency because Jesus could come back any time.
A ”Thank You” to all who have helped with meals, fixing things and just caring so deeply for our family over the last few months. Thank you as well to Dr. Grimbeek for his excellence in medicine and the team of doctors he got involved with Wayne and the Home Care people and diabetes specialists. What a great job they all did. Huge kudos to the team at Hospice who gave tirelessly up beyond what was expected. Also, a big thank you to Dr. Daniels, the doctor at the Red Deer Hospice.
A memorial service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held at the Kentwood Alliance Church, 4 – Kennedy St., Red Deer AB on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
