LANGMUIR, Colin
1947 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Mr. Colin Ivor Langmuir, following a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at the age of 77 years. Colin was born on August 22, 1947, in Bentley, Alberta, to Ivor and Doreen (nee Ellsworth) Langmuir. He spent his childhood primarily living on farms in the Rimbey and Bentley area. He decided High School was not much for him, worked seismic for a bit, and then joined the Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he served from 1965 – 1975. Early in his time in Nova Scotia, he went on a double date which connected him to a young Maritime gal named Catherine LeBlanc. Colin and Cathy were married on December 29, 1967. After his discharge from the Navy, Colin worked in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia selling cookware. Colin and Cathy decided to move to Alberta, residing in Bentley, Calgary, Lethbridge, and eventually, settling in Red Deer. Colin was a storyteller and had an amazing arsenal of jokes waiting to share at any moment. His easygoing nature, approachability, and conversational skills served him very well in the world of sales. He was a salesman through and through, selling everything from coffee, ice cream, pots and pans, Schwan Foods to furniture. He loved his last job at The Brick where he worked for years and made many friends. Colin will be lovingly remembered by his wife and companion of fifty-eight years, Cathy; his daughter, Janet Johnson (Mike) of Calgary, Alberta; his granddaughters, April of Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, Andrea and Arionna, both of Calgary, Alberta and his great grandson, Theo. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharyn Pahl (Bob) of Lacombe, Alberta, and Joyce Hendrickson of Buck Lake, Alberta; his brother, Dean Langmuir of Edmonton, Alberta and his brother-in-law, Dave Allan of Kalispell, Montana, as well as many in laws, nieces and nephews on Cathy’s side of the family. He will be missed by his own very large extended family and many friends from his working days and their apartment building in Red Deer. Colin’s passing has left a hole in our family and the world has lost a truly kind and caring man. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta.
