Ken Janko
May 7, 1963 — April 16, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Janko on April 16, 2025, at the age of 61. Ken was born on May 7, 1963, in Red Deer, Alberta, where he spent his early years surrounded by family and friends who cherished him. He departed this world peacefully at the Red Deer Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, and friendship.
Ken was preceded in death by his daughter Christy, father, Louis, his mother, Audrey, and his brothers Dennis and Calvin. He is survived by his devoted sister, Carolyn Truant, and her family, as well as grandsons Cole and Tristan, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many more who were touched by his generous spirit.
Throughout his life, Ken’s resilience was evident from a young age. He attended school in Red Deer before continuing his education in Calgary. During his high school years, he faced the challenging battle of cancer, which required a difficult surgery in Los Angeles. This journey, while arduous, shaped Ken’s character and instilled in him a profound appreciation for life and the people around him. It also affected his immune system, a reminder of his strength and courage in the face of adversity.
Ken’s career was as colorful as his personality. From a young age, he worked in his sister’s restaurant, where he developed a strong work ethic and a love for connecting with people. His passion for exotic automobiles and Harley Davidson motorcycles led him to a successful career in auto sales. Ken had an incredible ability to make friends wherever he went, often knowing someone in the car business or someone he had helped in some capacity. His big heart drew people to him, and he was known for his unwavering support and guidance. He always made time for those in need, receiving countless calls from friends expressing gratitude for his kindness.
In his leisure time, Ken’s interests were as diverse as they were fulfilling. He took immense pride in his speed skating as a youth and enjoyed dirt biking through the orchards in Osoyoos. His adventurous spirit led him to compete in snow motorcross races, while hunting and fishing in Brooks and Sundre with relatives and friends brought him great joy. Ken cherished the moments spent at the farm with his pony, skiing in the winter, and golfing in the summer. He truly embraced the beauty of the outdoors.
Although Ken never married, he experienced several long-term relationships that enriched his life. Among the many special people in his life, his niece Jaime was a steadfast source of support through thick and thin. A particularly heartfelt acknowledgment goes to Bonnie, whose love, support, and guidance were unwavering throughout Ken’s life. From his diagnosis of cancer at a young age to his final moments, Bonnie was by his side. Their bond was so profound that Ken affectionately referred to her as “Mom-Bonnie.” The appreciation for her presence in his life cannot be expressed in words.
As we celebrate Ken’s life, we invite those who knew him to remember the warmth and support he provided. His big heart touched many, and the impact he had on the lives of others will be cherished forever. In honor of Ken’s memory, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, a cause he cared about deeply.
Ken Janko will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, guiding us with the love and kindness he so generously shared. A private family funeral service was held to honor his memory.
