BLAIR, Pearl
1955 – 2025
Mrs. Pearl Blair passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at the age of 69 years. Pearl was born Chui-Man Lee on July 24, 1955 in Hong Kong to Cheun Hing and Shiu To Lee. She lived in Happy Valley, surrounded by extended family, until age 18 when she moved to Canada. The Immigration Office suggested three cities for her to move to and she chose Red Deer, due to the programs that Red Deer College offered. While at RDC she met David Blair, and they married on January 29, 1977. With their own two hands (and many power tools), David and Pearl built their home just west of Delburne in 1978. She helped David run Delburne Bus Lines, doing the bookkeeping, payroll and all the administration, also while they built up a small grain farm. She was known for her sweet and caring nature as well as her great memory, including knowing Cantonese fluently throughout her life, though rarely speaking it as an adult. Despite her cosmopolitan roots, she embraced the rural farm life, learning how to operate farm equipment, including a combine and grain truck, how to garden and can vegetables, and all about the local flora, fauna, and residents. She loved exploring the world with David on their many travels, which she loved planning and scrapbooking after. In more recent years, she loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and watching videos of Andre Rieu and other classical music concerts on YouTube. Pearl will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kimberly (Jeremy) Shipley and Amanda Blair (Rob Poggemiller) of Delburne, Alberta; her grandchildren, Emily, Austin, and Oliver; her sister, Margaret (Ron) Cheng of Burnaby, British Columbia; and her brother, Tom (Teresa) Lee of Melbourne, Australia; as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Pearl was predeceased by her husband, David Blair. A Celebration of Pearl’s Life and Final Toast was held at the Valley Centre Community Hall, 38062 Range Road 260, Red Deer County, Alberta on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Pearl’s honor may be made directly to the Lending Cupboard at www.lending cupboard.ca.
