Salim Abou-Ghanim
February 6, 1952– May 16, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Salim Abou-Ghanim, who left us peacefully in Rimbey, Alberta, on May 16, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born on February 6, 1952, in Lebanon, Salim brought with him a strong spirit, warm heart, and deep love for family when he made Canada his home. In 1988, he opened Roger’s Restaurant in Rimbey, where he not only built a successful business but also a legacy rooted in hard work, kindness, and community.
Salim was a devoted husband to Wafa, and a proud father to Nadine (Rabih Halawi), Nesrine (Anwar Abdel Malak), Razanne (Eyad Kamis), Leanne (Kifah Serhal), and his beloved son Bayan. He was also a cherished grandfather to Keenan, Danny, Teo, Adam, Aya, Zane, and Serena, whose lives were brightened by his gentle presence and generous heart.
He was known for his constant jokes and pranks, always wearing a smile and ready with a kind word. Salim loved to chat with his regular customers, making each visit to the restaurant feel like a gathering of friends. He lived life to the fullest, and made regular trips back to Lebanon—his heart never truly left his home country.
Salim’s life was defined by his dedication to his family, his generosity toward others, and his enduring commitment to building a better life for those he loved. His memory will live on in the values he instilled, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
A public memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 7:00 PM, at the Canadian Druze Center, located at 14304 134 Ave, Edmonton, Alberta. All who knew and loved Salim are welcome to attend and honor his life.
A burial will follow the memorial in his beloved home country of Lebanon.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
