BANGMA, Richard
1947 – 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Richard Norman Bangma of Blackfalds Alberta, who left us on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the age of 77 years old. Richard was born June 28, 1947 in Summerland, British Columbia, to Rinnert Jan ‘John’ Bangma and Aafje ‘Evelyn’ Bangma nee Schuurman. Richard grew up in Summerland, British Columbia and graduated from Summerland Secondary School in 1962. After school, he worked various jobs in British Columbia before earning a Steelworks Certificate from BC Tech. He worked in this field until he moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta, where he found that the air quality affected his breathing. Richard and his family relocated to Nakusp, BC, where they built their home. Richard worked as a truck driver for the Forest Industry. After leaving Nakusp, Richard continued his career in Kenora, Ontario as a truck driver, traveling extensively across the United Stated and Canada. He also worked as a tow truck driver for Godbout’s Auto Towing in Kenora. Later, Richard moved to Blackfalds, Alberta where he worked on the Joffre petrochemical plant and then as a truck driver for Northwest Tank Lines until his retirement. He had a deep love for his “big trucks” and enjoyed the freedom of the open road. Beyond his professional life, Richard was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and his commitment to helping others was an important part of his life. He was also passionate about travel, visiting family in the Netherlands, friends in Romania, Israel, France, and visiting his sister, Freda while she docked her boat in Hong Kong. His travels also took him across the United States and Canada during his trucking days. Richard’s family, friends and all who knew him will remember his kindness, resilience and love for life. Richard is survived by his companion, Molly Mulloy; his son, Reuben Royal Boulton (M Zoe) of Vancouver, British Columbia; his daughter, Bethal Elizabeth Evelyn Boulton of Kenora, Ontario; his brother, Ronald Albert Bangma of Montague, California; and his sister, Freda Marianne Thompson (Rollie Potter) of Oro Valley, Arizona. Richard was predeceased by his son, Richard Nelson Bangma (1971), his sister, Agnes Alberdina Williams (2018), and his brother, Louis John Gangma (2017). He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kozy Korner, 5024 – 53 Street, Lacombe, Alberta on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
