Red Deer Regional Hospital staff hold rally after negotiations with AHS stagnate
Healthcare workers of the Red Deer Regional Hospital held a rally on Wednesday outside the facility.
Alberta Union of Provincial Employee (AUPE) members working in nursing care and general support services held the rally outside the hospital to demonstrate their bargaining power after discussions stalled with Alberta Health Services.
AUPE vice-president Darren Graham said the prior agreement expired in March 2024 and they want to return to the bargaining table to get a deal done.
“This is the true heart of health care here and these folks are getting sick and tired of it. They have bills to pay and they need to make ends meet. The United Nurses of Alberta got a fairly substantial agreement and they’re not even offering anywhere near that. They’re actually referring to our proposals as a bag of goodies. They don’t even want to discuss it at the table and it’s very disheartening.”
