Apr 27, 2025 | 1:00 PM

Red Deer’s Sendero Centre (formerly the Central Alberta Sexual Assault Support Centre) is hosting a free event on May 15 to mark Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.

The event takes place at Westerner Park’s Harvest Centre, and will feature a panel discussion, guest speaker Terriea Harris, and a workshop. It runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Per the Sendero Centre:

Join us for “Remember Me,” an impactful event inviting community members, law enforcement officers, court officials, or those working within social services and professionals to come together and recognize the barriers faced when reporting sexual offenses.

This event aims to spark critical conversations surrounding deliberate awareness and the harsh realities of sexual violence, fostering understanding and action.

Featuring powerful speaker Tierriea Harris, we will delve into the pressing issues of Gender-Based Violence, Human Trafficking, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

Guest Speaker Terriea Harris is a registered therapist specializing in somatic therapy, she loves to dance and teaches dance and holds various ceremonial spaces as a Spiritual leader.

She is also a survivor of sex trafficking as a teenager, and since 2010, she has passionately supported survivors of violence and their family members in various roles. She oversaw a program for survival of sex workers in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, which included the complexity of navigating the various systems to ensure the sex workers safety and survival. She is a strong advocate for emotional and somatic intelligence working alongside the intellect as service providers.
