Wetaskiwin RCMP arrest three in alleged armed robbery

Two citizens of Maskwacis and another from Wetaskiwin have been arrested in connection to an armed robbery that happened on Feb. 6.

RCMP say they received a call about the alleged robbery that took place at a residence in Wetaskiwin where three suspects allegedly entered the home, pointed guns at the head of the victim and stole multiple items. The accused then left on foot.

Mounties say the items taken include a television, bank cards, identification card, money and a cell phone.

The next day, Wetaskiwin RCMP General Investigations Section conducted a search warrant at a nearby residence where Maskwacis residents Kristen Rain, 39, and Shane Potts, 35, were arrested. Police also received assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team.

On Feb. 12 the investigation resulted in another search warrant executed. A third suspect, 35-year-old Derek Feller of Wetaskiwin, was taken into custody without incident. Police located two imitation firearms that were believed to be used in the armed robbery.

As a result, Rain is facing charges of robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, two counts of assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.

Potts was charged with robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, two counts of assault with a weapon and, uttering threats.

Feller was charged with robbery with firearm, two counts of assault with a weapon, and uttering threats.

All accused are being held in custody, and scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Feb. 20.
