GOODMAN, Clayton
1942 – 2025
It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family announces the passing of Mr. Clayton ‘Clay’ Ralph Goodman on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at the age of 82 years. Clayton was born on April 4, 1942, to parents, Marjorie and Fred Goodman. He graduated from High School in Weekes, Saskatchewan, and went on to join the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he proudly served his country for thirty-two years. Clayton found joy in the simple things. He loved flowers, birds, music, woodworking, and art. He loved fishing, especially for salmon, curling, and coaching hockey, and there was no mistake in saying that he absolutely loved golf the most. Clayton was our hero, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. More than anything in life, his greatest joys and love of all were his family. He loved being a dad and was extremely proud of his two boys. He was there for every important moment in their lives, cheering them on with unconditional love and support. Clayton’s sense of humor was priceless, his laugh was contagious, his hugs, healing, and his patience, endless. His unwavering support and quiet strength showed them what true strength and courage looks like, how to live a life with purpose and integrity, and to face adversity with grace. Clayton loved being a grandpa. He leaves behind priceless memories for his grandchildren to cherish. They will always hold in their hearts the memories of their many adventures with grandpa, his stories, his devotion and love, and of course his famous ‘barbeque dance’. When the two of them were too young to be allowed on the deck while grandpa barbecued, they were always excited because grandpa would dance from outside the kitchen window, making us all laugh until our sides hurt. Clayton loved his daughter-in-law, Julanne, he loved how she made sure everyone had time off from their busy schedules to come to grandpa and grandmas for every special event, birthday suppers, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter dinners. One of his greatest joys was sitting at the head of the table and watching as the family he loved, laughed and talked, and enjoyed being together. Those who knew Clayton, watched in amazement each time he battled his way back from one life changing health event after another, with the most amazing grace, bravery, and strength. He lived everyday with positivity and determination. He was our angel. We know this is not only because we were so blessed to have him in our lives, but because he always said he was an angel. Whenever he got caught pulling off one of his mischievous stunts it was always, “wasn’t me, couldn’t have been because I’m an angel”. No one could argue with the fact that grandpa was an angel. He was so convincing the grandchildren never made snow angels, they always made ‘Grandpa Angels’. Clayton, my husband, my partner, my best friend, I can still see your smile and hear the words you lived by, “Life is good”. My heart is heavy with loss but overflowing with gratitude for the fifty-six beautiful years we shared together. I am grateful for your smile, your wisdom, and your kindness. Your courage and strength in the way you faced every challenge, including illness, was awe-inspiring to everyone who was lucky enough to know you. I am thankful for the memories we created, the adventures we embarked on, the moments we shared, and the family we raised together. Each memory is a treasure that I will cherish always. Thank you, our angel, for the love you shared so freely, and the legacy you leave behind. We will hold you in our hearts forever. Clayton leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Diana; his two sons, Clayton and Stuart; his daughter-in-law, Julanne and his two grandchildren, Connor and Deanna. He will also be sadly missed by his brother, Garvin; his nephew, Gary; his brothers-in-law, Laurence, Calvin, Ralph, and Ivan; his sisters-in-law, Rose, Shirley, Bernadine, and Alice, Marion and Shirley Goodman, as well as his many nieces, nephews and friends. Clayton was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Fred; his brothers, Willfred, Allan and Ken; his sisters; Ina, Naomi, and Eva; his nieces, Sheila and Brenda; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wilfred and Ida; his brothers-in-law, Tobi and Clifford; and his sisters-in-law, Diane, Donna, and Beverley. A Private Celebration of Life for Clayton will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
