Ontario man facing charges after Red Deer drug bust

Red Deer RCMP have made an arrest following a drug trafficking investigation.

On Jan. 22, police arrested 36-year-old Ermias Yohannes from Ontario, who’s been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Police arrested Yohannes after they conducted a search warrant at a residence and motor vehicle in the Red Deer area.

Police seized over 16 ounces of cocaine that had been pressed into brick form and prepackaged for sale, 140 oxycodone tablets, items used in trafficking controlled substances, and over $100,000 in Canadian currency.

“Red Deer RCMP remain committed to improving public safety and disrupting drug trafficking activities within our communities,” said Cst. Andrew Devine, Red Deer RCMP General Investigations Unit.

Yohannes was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. He’ll make his next court appearance on Jan. 30 at Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
