With heavy hearts, the family of Ronald James Healing, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, announce his passing on January 8, 2025, in Red Deer, after a lengthy and heroic battle with heart disease. Throughout Ron’s health challenges, and despite being told numerous times that his days on earth were numbered, his survival instincts and zest for life kicked into high gear! His spirit never faltered, and his infectious wit and humor carried him—and those who loved him—through many happy and precious years together, right up until his passing.
Ron was born on February 9, 1949, to Jack and Florence Healing of Lacombe, Alberta. He was the youngest of six children, including sisters Betty and Rose, and brothers Bill, Sid, and Doug, all of whom predeceased him. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love in his cherished family, including numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ron attended Lacombe Composite High School and later furthered his education in Calgary at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. His education led to a lengthy career in the oilfield industry, offering him opportunities overseas, where he spent most of his working years until his retirement. Despite his travels, Ron remained a steadfast fan of the Edmonton Oilers, always carrying a piece of his homeland in his heart while exploring various corners of the world.
Ron’s family was his “everything,” and he left this world knowing how loved he was by his wife, Leanne, of 55 years; his son, Shane (Melissa); his daughter, Kristi (Ryan); his five cherished grandchildren who brought him so much joy: Mitch (Ashlee), Madison (Quinn), Arianna, Josh, and Abby; as well as his two adorable great-grandchildren, Ava and Vienna.
Ron also leaves to mourn the other side of his beloved family, including his brothers-in-law Mike (Rose) and Dave (Kelly) and their families, whose unwavering love and support made his journey so much easier. Ron is now reunited with his brother-in-law Bill, who sadly and recently passed as well. That could be one fun party up there.
Rest in peace, our dearest Ron. Your memory will be forever etched in our hearts, a treasure trove of happy memories and laughter that will resonate with us for generations to come. The family invites those who knew Ron to keep his spirit alive by remembering the good times shared and the light he brought into their lives. In keeping with Ron’s vibrant spirit, his family will honor him with a private celebration of his life, where laughter and fond memories will be shared, just as he wanted.
We will be forever grateful to Ron’s longtime friend, mentor, and amazing family physician, Dr. Lockhat (Stettler), and Dr. Singh (Red Deer), his brilliant cardiologist, both of whom prolonged and even saved Ron’s life numerous times over the years. The staff at the Heart Function Clinic, Cardiology, and the Device Clinic at the hospital became like family, and the care and love he received from them was extraordinary.
