Frederik (Fred) Bierhorst passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Olds Hospital and Care Centre, following complications from respiratory illness. Fred was born October 12, 1946 in Wolfheze, Netherlands the son of the late Janna & Arie Bierhorst. He was predeceased by his wife Muriel Alice, stepson Garry, Reynolds, (Digby), and brother Jan Geyssen (Victoria). He is survived by his stepchildren Brian Reynolds (Mt. Uniacke), David Reynolds (Amherst), Pam (Steve) Walker (Bridgetown) and Terry Reynolds (Greenwood).
He is also survived by siblings Rita Thompson (Brian), Olds and Gerrit Geyssen (Susan) (Victoria). He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. Fred immigrated to Ontario, Canada with his family in 1957 followed by a move to Victoria in 1958. He left for military basic training in Ontario in 1965. He served our country for 30 years until his retirement as a Master Warrant Officer in 1995. After his retirement he and Muriel settled in Bear River, Nova Scotia where he enjoyed managing their hobby farm. He worked hard restoring a heritage barn and shared a few beers with his neighbour Brendon Frail while working together building an ultra light plane.
He moved to Olds in 2016 and enjoyed living at Whitewater Way. He loved walking across the street to the Co-op where he knew all the staff by name. He liked going to the Olds Royal Canadian Legion to socialize over a beer and enjoyed many a game of crib… especially when he won. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #105, Boardroom, Olds, Alberta at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
