With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mrs. Cheryl Lorraine Ridout (nee MacKeigan) at the Red Deer Hospice on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the age of 54 years. Cheryl was born on April 3, 1970, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia (Cape Breton). She was the beloved daughter of Bobby and Gertie MacKeigan (both predeceased) of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Cheryl shared a deep love for her nieces and nephews, as well as their children, and formed strong, lasting bonds with each of them. She often joked about “stealing” some of her siblings’ grandchildren. Cheryl was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of her granddaughter, Violet, expected in February, and we take comfort knowing she will be watching over her through every milestone. Cheryl’s journey took her from Glace Bay to Alberta in 1998, when she and her family made the move in search of a better life for her children. While Alberta became her home, Cape Breton always held a special place in her heart, and she visited whenever possible. In her younger years, Cheryl was often found cheering on her children at hockey, lacrosse, and soccer games, and enjoying time with her daughter, Tiffany at the movies, or shopping. Cheryl was known for keeping her family, especially her mom, laughing. She had a true love for holidays – especially Christmas and Thanksgiving, when she enjoyed decorating, cooking, and spending time with family, often sharing food and drinks and creating countless memories full of laughter. Cheryl had a special bond with her little dog, Lily, who comforted her through her surgeries and chemotherapy. Lily provided Cheryl with much-needed love and companionship during her battles. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the family and friends who supported Cheryl throughout her chemotherapy treatments, as well as to those who brought flowers, food, and offered love and care before and after her surgeries. Your kindness and support meant the world to her. A special thank you goes to Cheryl’s “Golden Girls”, Michelle, Melody, and Cheryl for being such cherished friends. We also extend our deepest thanks to the staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre for their exceptional care, as well as to Innisfail Home Care, and Dana Howell for their unwavering love and support. Our gratitude goes to the Red Deer Hospice for their compassionate care, making Cheryl feel comfortable in her final days. We are also grateful to Cheryl’s team of doctors, Dr. Christiansen, Dr. Marius, Dr. McCall, Dr. Mach, Dr. Sharma, and Dr. Bromley for their dedication and care. Cheryl leaves to mourn her devoted husband, Stanley Ridout, and their children, Tiffany (Curtis), Ryan (Macayla), and Kyle. She will also be sadly missed by her mother-in-law, Bev, her father-in-law, Wayne, her sisters-in-law, Barbara, Ann Marie MacKeigan, and Crystal (Shaun), and her cherished niece, Madi. Cheryl will be dearly missed by her siblings in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Shirley (Ricky), Florence (Dave), Colleen (Kerry), Billy (Donna), Kenny (Donna), and Eddie (Bernadette). Cheryl was predeceased by her brothers, Junior and Keith, and her brother-in-law, Richie. Cheryl will always be remembered with love by the Ridout and MacKeigan families.
