It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of David ‘Dave’ Lloyd Bjarnason on December 18, 2024, at the age of 79 years. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to a grateful family, who are proud of the time we spent with him. Though we will miss him, we are all better off for having him in our lives for as long as we did.
He was born to Albert and Francis Bjarnason on September 27, 1945 in Markerville, Alberta, where he spent his early years before moving to Calgary, Alberta, and completed his schooling. Dave was the second youngest of five siblings: Sandra, Lucille, Brian and Lorne.
He married his loving wife, Sharon, in 1966, and they shared a life filled with love, laughter and countless memories. They were together every day since, an enduring partnership that spanned over fifty-eight years. Professionally, Dave wore many hats, but first and foremost, he was a small business owner and entrepreneur. He owned B&D Service Station in Spruce View, Alberta from 1973 to 1988. After selling his service station, Dave embraced a new adventure, buying a bed truck and driving through muddy lease roads to move service rigs and other equipment. In retirement, Dave loved working in his shop, building custom fishing rods and becoming a skilled woodworker. Dave had a deep love for the outdoors and activity. He was happiest when he was spending time with family and friends, whether playing sports, fishing, or canoeing. In his younger years, Dave played hockey for the Caroline Jets and later for the Spruce View Old Timer’s Team. Summers were spent playing basketball with the Kevisville Savages fastball team or canoeing and fishing with loved ones. If you couldn’t find Dave, the best bet was that he was out on the Red Deer River, in his canoe with a fish on the line. Dave is lovingly remembered by his son, Blaine (Carilyn), their children, Bronwyn (James), Geoff and great grandson, Avery. He will also be deeply missed by his youngest son, Mark (Susan), along with their boys, Braden and Reese.
