In Loving Memory of
Wendy Gauthier, née Huizing
“…If we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
– 1 John 4:12
Wendy Gauthier, née Huizing, passed over to heaven on December 6th, surrounded by her loving family. While the sorrow is real and we are shocked by her sudden passing, we remain confident of being reunited in God’s kingdom. Wendy was a cherished individual known for her steadfast love, kindness, high energy, and humorous personality. “Always in motion for good” is how she was so often described.
Wendy was born in the Netherlands in 1962, where her competitive nature was made known immediately when she arrived before her twin sister Ria, forever earning her title of “older twin”. Following in the footsteps of her mother, Anna, Wendy studied nursing at Alberta Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Michel. The two personalities were perfectly complementary, and they were married in July of 1984. Michel’s unwavering love for Wendy allowed her to see the world and accomplish many of her dreams. Wendy’s “fun first, safety later” motto ensured a fun-loving childhood packed with memories for her two children and continuous laughter for all who got to know her. Her aptitude and skill in psychiatric nursing allowed Wendy to be instrumental in the rollout and development of Edmonton’s PACT response unit.
Credited with saving and rehabilitating lives throughout her career, Wendy made the decision to shift her focus toward family and further serve the Lord. Graduating from Bible school, Wendy applied her knowledge of mental health and soul healing to better her community. Her home became a revolving door for guests and gatherings, and her nature— much like her home—truly embodied the Dutch culture of “Gezellig.”
A loving wife, mother, and Oma, Wendy is remembered by her husband, Michel; her children, Sam (and his wife, Lindsay) and Andria (and her husband, Hector); and her two grandchildren, who she affectionately referred to as the “sunshine of her life.”
A celebration of Wendy’s life will take place on Sunday, December 15th, at 2 p.m. at Willow Lane Barn in Olds, AB.
