Dec 7, 2024 | 9:05 PM

The Red Deer Rebels scoring struggles continued on Saturday night as they were shut out 3-0 by the Swift Current Broncos.

At the InnovationPlex in Saskatchewan, both goaltenders were on top of their games. Broncos Reid Dyck stood on his head with a 30-save performance, meanwhile, Rebels Chase Wutzke made 42 saves in the loss.

The Broncos got on the board first nearly 2:30 into the first period when Connor Gabriel scored on Wutzke. The tally sparked fans to rain down teddy bears on the ice for the team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss game.

Over 10 and a half minutes later, the Broncos extended their lead 2-0 after Clarke Caswell scored his 11th of the season on the powerplay.

In the second period, Broncos forward Dawson Gerwing added to the Broncos lead 11:12 into the frame.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third period and with the loss, the Rebels now post a 14-12-1-2 record.

In special teams, the Rebels struggled on the powerplay going 0/4 but were strong on the penalty kill holding the Broncos to one goal on five powerplays.

Next up, Red Deer won’t play until next Friday, Dec. 13 in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes before hosting the Kamploops Blazers on Saturday, Dec. 14.
