Leonard Dean Boomer of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 24, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 73.
Leonard will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 50 years Valerie, his son Mitchell (Kristin), three treasured grandchildren Boyd, Jack and Ruby, his daughter Lisa (Cameron) and his sister Donna (Peter).
Leonard enjoyed skiing, visiting, old movies, reading, traveling and was a great history buff of WW’s and Vietnam. His interest in Fox news channel and US politics were his favourite topics. His love of heavy equipment and 25 years with Boomer Bros Construction led him on many adventures. His favourite being the Dease Lake job of building railroad beds in 1971.
When his dad and uncles retired, he attended Red Deer College where he received his plumbing and gasfitting ticket. This was not an easy task at the age of 45. However, he met this challenge with flying colours and the marks to prove it.
He believed in hard work to get ahead, in right and wrong, and being on time was a must. He took great pride in his yard, vehicles, RV’s and Harley Davidson motorcycle which he kept spotless at all times.
Leonard helped his wife raise two wonderful kids which made him very proud. The two houses they built were special to them. The first home they built in Sylvan Lake and lived there for 35 years. This home was followed by their dream home on the Burnt Lake Trail in 2010.
Friends and family were very important for him so he could express his strong opinions with some very colourful language.
A public celebration will be held at the Sylvan Lake Legion on Friday, December 6 from 1:00 – 4:00pm.
Donations may be made to the Parkison’s Society.
