Mr. Robert ‘Bob’ Jude Shortt passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the age of 77 years. He was born on October 7, 1947 in Dublin, Ireland to Peter and Bridget Shortt. The survival of both mother and baby was uncertain, so Bob was quickly named Robert instead of the intended Paul. At the age of nine or ten years, it was discussed that Bob had extreme difficulty hearing and for that reason, he was labeled slow, backward, etc. After surgery, even the everyday sounds of street traffic were terrifying to him. His father bought him a toy mandolin, which was the beginning of his love for music to which he devoted the remainder of his life very successfully. In 1973, Bob moved to Canada, where he played with various bands throughout the country and the United States of America. In 1987, the move to Alberta found Bob playing many solo gigs. After Covid shut things down, Bob played at Senior’s Residences, which he truly enjoyed. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Elaine, Regan Chevalier-Shortt (Lisette), May and Zac, his stepson, Barry Gainer, his stepdaughter, Barbara Comfort-Spokes (Steve), Alex (Morgan), Dylan, Beverly Cholach (Darrell), Taylor and Kelly. Bob will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Luke (Joan) and Michael (Eileen) in Ireland, as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews and friends worldwide. No person could have been more respected or loved. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
