RDP Athletes of the Week: Nov. 1-3

RDP Athletics –– Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics has announced its athletes of the week for Nov. 1-3.

Jayden Demchuk
Queens Basketball
Program – Practical Nurse Diploma (5th)
Hometown – Whitehorse, Yukon

Jayden Demchuk was a difference maker for the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team. Over two games, the five-foot-nine forward accumulated a total of 23 points, 22 rebounds, five assists and one steal, helping the Queens split their contests on the road.

In Thursday’s 75-58 victory against the Keyano College Huskies, Demchuk had 16 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and one steal. She was recognized as the Queens Player of the Game.

On Friday, Demchuk accumulated seven points, seven rebounds and two assists in an 81-50 setback to the Lakeland College Rustlers, the 2024 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Basketball National Champions.

Currently, Whitehorse’s Demchuk ranks fourth in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Basketball with 9.7 rebounds per game.

The RDP Queens (3-1) are third in the ACAC Women’s Basketball South Division.

Colby Nemeth
Kings Volleyball
Program – Bachelor of Commerce (4th)
Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta

Red Deer’s Colby Nemeth had an outstanding weekend for the RDP Kings Volleyball team. The talented six-foot-five power hitter contributed 53 points over two matches and helped the Kings earn a pair of home victories.

In Friday’s game against the Lakeland College Rustlers, Nemeth had 18 points – 15 kills (0.480), two service aces and one stuff block. His contributions helped the RDP Kings defeat the Rustlers in three sets (25-19, 25-20 and 25-19).

Then on Saturday, Nemeth delivered another clutch performance, recording 35 points – 32 kills (0.480) and three stuff blocks against the Keyano College Huskies. He was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game in both matches.

Currently, Nemeth leads the ACAC with five kills per set and a total of 70 kills.

The undefeated Kings (4-0) share first place with the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (4-0) in the ACAC Men’s Volleyball South Division. In four matches, the Kings have only dropped two sets.
