Carolyn (Carol) Sandra Johnston of Olds, Alberta passed away on October 21, 2024, at the age of 80. A beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Carol will always be remembered for her kindness and positive attitude. Carol was born on November 8, 1943, in Edmonton, Alberta to her parents Walter and Ruth Bredo. She grew up in Edmonton with brother Keith and sisters Patricia and Wendy. Carol spent much of her childhood with her grandmother and surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins, instilling in her a devotion to family. In November 1965, Carol married the love of her life, William (Bill) Johnston. The two shared a romance that lasted nearly 60 years and blessed them with three children and nine grandchildren. She and Bill traveled to many parts of the world and enjoyed many unique experiences. Carol was a doer. If you wanted something done, everyone knew Carol would help take care of it! She made a profound impact on her family and community through her tireless contributions to local service organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Olds, Olds Kiwanis Performing Arts Society, Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta, and the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society (Kirsten’s Place). Carol was an excellent baker, filling the house with cookies, muffins, and pies. Carol also loved to read both for fun and for knowledge, researching any topic discussed with family. Carol is survived by her loving and devoted husband Bill, her sons Clifton (Amy) and Rodney (Kristy), and daughter Jodi (Ralph), as well as her grandchildren Connor, Liam, Randy (Brittany), Adam (Emily), Isobel, Cooper, Reese, Brooke, and Riley. Her unwavering dedication to her family and community will continue to inspire us all. A service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Olds & District Evergreen Hall (5237 – 52 Street).
