Charge withdrawn for Blackfalds resident accused in collision with pedestrian

A Blackfalds resident charged in a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian this summer has had her charge withdrawn.

Estela Chua, 53, had one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm withdrawn in Red Deer Court of Justice on Oct. 25, 2024.

According to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), Crown prosecutors continually evaluate evidence in light of the prosecution standard that the matter is in the public interest and there be a reasonable likelihood of conviction.

“If at any time following the laying of charges the Crown prosecutor becomes aware that the matter does not meet the standard for prosecution, the charges may be stayed, withdrawn or downgraded,” reads a statement from ACPS.
