Don Badry passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the age of 74 years. Born in Hardisty, Alberta, on January 15, 1950, Don grew up on a farm near Donalda. Upon moving to Red Deer, he worked at the John Deere dealership, Cidco Industrial Supplies and then as Central Alberta Area Salesman for Northern Hydraulics, (later N.L. Rucker Products). In 1982, Don and a partner started DB Engineered Hydraulics, which Don owned and operated for forty-two years until his passing. Don had many passions in his life. He was involved in the Red Deer Snowmobile Club, Alberta Snowmobile Association, Lacombe Light Horse Association and Central Alberta Team Penning Association. Don loved snowmobiling, cross-country racing or riding the mountain trails in British Columbia on numerous family trips. The summer weekends were filled with family trips to the west country, camping, dirt biking, and riding horses. The Ya Ha Tinda, Sandy McNabb and Bragg Creek area were favorite destinations for horseback riding. In 1995, he fulfilled a longtime wish by building an indoor riding arena, barn and shop. There, he enjoyed hosting the Red Deer East 4-H Horse Club for years. Don himself showed horses in mostly the trail and western pleasure classes during the 90s and 2000s. A highlight was qualifying to compete in the trail class at the 2007 AQHA Select World Show in Amarillo, Texas, with his beloved horse, Faith. Don also loved cattle penning, which he did as much as possible in his later years, all over Central and Southern Alberta. Including qualifying to compete at the Calgary Stampede. Don will be lovingly remembered by Sharon, his wife of fifty years, their sons, Curtis and Nick, and his brother Al. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers-in-law Vic Grose of Grande Cache and Jim (Faye) Grose of Clive as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Don was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Fay Badry, sisters Marilyn, Sherry and brother Dale. As per Don’s wishes, no service will be held.
