Councillors unanimously re-elected Barb Shepherd as Reeve on Thursday at the Lacombe County Organizational Meeting for her fourth one-year term.

The Division 3 councillor was voted in by her fellow council members, which highlighted their continued confidence in Shepherd.

The Oath of Office was administered by County Manager Tim Timmons, marking the beginning of Reeve Shepherd’s new term.

“Reeve Shepherd’s steadfast commitment and leadership continue to inspire confidence in the county’s future,” said County Manager Tim Timmons in a media release.

“Her ability to navigate complex issues with a clear vision and an open mind – putting the community’s needs first – has earned the continued trust of council and staff alike.

“We are confident that under her leadership, Lacombe County will continue to thrive, and we look forward to another year of collaboration and progress with her at the helm.”

Shepherd moved to central Alberta in 1984 to begin what turned out to be a four-decade career in banking after growing up on a ranch in southwestern Saskatchewan.

She was first elected to Lacombe County Council in 2013 and has remained a member ever since.

She expressed her gratitude on Thursday for her fellow councillors for their continued trust in her as reeve.

“It remains a true honour to serve as reeve of Lacombe County,” said Reeve Shepherd.

“I am grateful for the support, mutual respect and confidence of my colleagues and for the opportunity to continue working for the people of Lacombe County.”

Shepherd also reflected on some of her accomplishments over the past year, which included attracting new businesses and interest to Lacombe County.

Earlier this year, 30 international ambassadors visited the community which allowed the county to showcase what they have to offer and the businesses that are leading the way for sustainability including Doef’s Greenhouse, Enhance Energy and NOVA Chemicals.

“The tour included the new Dairy Innovation West (DIW) facility, a $75 million milk concentration facility, the first of its kind in Canada,” said Reeve Shepherd.

“Seeing it open its doors next spring will definitely be another highlight for me as reeve for Lacombe County.”

John Ireland will also continue his role as deputy reeve for his second year of a two-year term.
