Cheryl Denise Fraser (Nakaska), 68, of Penhold, Alberta passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Red Deer Hospice on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Cheryl was born on August 10, 1956 in Trochu, Alberta to Edward and Elizabeth Nakaska (Molnar). Cheryl was the oldest of her four siblings. On December 20, 1974 she married Lonnie Richard Fraser. Together, they have two loving sons: Scott Robert and Craig Edward. Her work ethic and love for the outdoors could always find Cheryl in the garden or her spectacular yard, her passion resulted in being awarded the Red Deer County beautification award for her acreage in 2006. Outside of her yard, she could be found kayaking on the Red Deer River, hiking with family at the Nakaska farm in Three Hills and enjoying family BBQ’s. As a mom and grandmother, she always loved the tradition of growing many pumpkins that were all carved at Lonnie’s birthday every year to gather the family together. Cheryl aways had a love for cats and she had many throughout her life, they were always treated as part of the family and very special to her. Cheryl was a committed, honest and confident mother, friend and co-worker. Predeceased by her devoted husband Lonnie of forty-three years, she lovingly leaves behind sons Scott (Kelly), Craig (Jennifer); granddaughters Alexandra, Rebecca, Jillian, Aubrey and Cara; as well as her step mother, Karin Nakaska (Linde), her brother Terry Nakaska; sisters Karen Nakaska, Glenda Nakaska-Smith and Maurene Hopkins as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family wishes to thank the team for the care and attention received at the Innisfail Health Care Centre, and the tremendous care and compassion in Cheryl’s final days at the Red Deer Hospice. In keeping with Cheryl’s wishes, a family gathering will be held at a later date.
