This past week, the RDP Soccer teams picked up victories in their last regular season contests.

The Queens Hockey team defeated the SAIT Trojans twice.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team was edged by the Trojans in both weekend games.

The RDP Rodeo team earned eight top 10 finishes in Olds.

Hockey

Queens at SAIT Trojans | Friday, October 18

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team defeated the SAIT Trojans 3-2 in Calgary. Hayley Kolosky (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology) recorded a hat trick, including a shorthanded goal. Queens goaltender Izzy Palumbo made 24 saves (0.923).

The third place RDP Queens (3-2) sealed a 2-1 decision over the fourth seed Trojans (1-3) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Mia McGregor and Karli Kutchinski scored for the Polytechnic. Queens netminder Tora Ward (Bachelor of Education) turned aside 15 shots (0.938).

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team was edged 3-2 by the SAIT Trojans in overtime. Lloydminster, Alberta’s Chase Haygarth and Wainwright’s Jarod Newell scored for RDP. Kristian Lyon (Business Administration – General Management) made 30 saves (0.909) in the Kings’ net.

The RDP Kings (0W-1L-1OTL) were downed 4-2 by the Trojans (2-0). Nolan Doell (Bachelor of Education –Middle Years) and Deegan Mofford (Open Studies) had goals for the Kings.

Soccer

Queens vs Ambrose University Lions | RDP Main Field | Saturday, October 19

In the final regular season game, the second place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team (9-3) earned a 3-1 victory over the sixth seed Ambrose University Lions (2-8-2) at home, qualifying for the postseason. Paige Kalbfleisch, Kyra Remekie and Olivia Lundell scored for the Queens.

The first place RDP Kings (6-2-2) defeated the sixth seed Lions (1-8-1) by a 4-2 margin. After Leopald Kadezabek opened the scoring for RDP, captain Ajdin Sarcevic added three goals. With the victory, the Kings earned a spot in the ACAC Men’s Soccer semi-finals on Saturday, October 26.

Rodeo

Olds Fall Rodeo | October 19-20

The Red Deer Polytechnic Rodeo team had an impactful performance at the Olds Fall Rodeo. The RDP Kings and Queens achieved eight top 10 results. Fort St. John’s Casey Thomson earned a pair of first place finishes (67 points and 67 points) in Bareback Riding.

On Saturday, Taylor Cholach (14.41) solidified third and Brienna Leer (14.74) finished 10th in Barrel Racing.

Longview’s Rylee Peck (22.0) sealed sixth in Pole Bending. In Goat Tying, Julia Holtkamp (11.9) wrapped up ninth on the opening day.

On Sunday, Chad Cooper (10.0) won Tie Down. Ryan Collet (13.3) ranked fourth in the event.
