Red Deer County launches ‘The Zone’ municipal government hub

Oct 22, 2024 | 11:58 AM

Red Deer County has launched a new portal they say will give residents improved access to material from council meetings.

Starting Oct. 22, residents can live stream meetings and watch recordings on The Zone.

The county says providing such access promotes transparency.

“Streaming council meetings encourages civic engagement and allows community members to stay informed about local governance, ultimately building trust between citizens and their elected officials,” said Mayor Jim Wood.

Key features include:

• Live streaming videos with closed captioning;

• Convenience to watch recorded videos;

• Enhanced search functions on finding:
o Bylaws and Polices;
o Planning documents
o Council and Committee Meeting documents and decisions

The public can continue to attend council meetings in person. The use of video conferencing through Zoom links will be limited to Public Hearings.

Residents can email questions or concerns to legislativeservices@rdcounty.ca or call 403-350-2152.
