Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is launching two new artificial intelligence (AI) programs in the fall of 2025, and applications are open now.

Students can apply for the new Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics Diploma or the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics Post-Baccalaureate Certificate.

“By fostering expertise in artificial intelligence, we are preparing students to lead in this rapidly advancing field and help shape the future of technology,” says Dr. Robbie J. Halonen, dean of the Donald School of Business, Science and Computing. ” These new programs will equip students with the necessary skills to meet the growing demand for expertise in this field and capitalize on the economic opportunities presented by artificial intelligence. Students will gain the skills to develop intelligent systems, drive data-driven decisions and contribute to groundbreaking research and technological innovation in Alberta and beyond.”

RDP officials say the diploma program will give students diverse skills to apply AI technology in developing solutions for modern industry challenges. They will also have the ability to focus their learning by specializing in either machine learning, business intelligence, or bioinformatics.

The post-baccalaureate certificate is designed for professionals who have existing degrees to add to their knowledge specializing in machine learning and data analytics. Graduates will gain the skills to perform data engineering and visualization, and design artificial intelligence solutions that enhance productivity across a variety of industries.

Both programs will offer co-op specialization opportunities where students can network and apply their knowledge in real world settings through work experience. Students would be required to complete a 420-hour (minimum) paid work term.

The Polytechnic’s representatives say these programs should equip graduates to assume a range of roles including data analyst, AI technologist, machine learning specialist and business intelligence analyst.

Residents interested in learning more about these or RDP’s other programs are invited to attend the Open House on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m. on the main campus.
