Carol Jean Johnson
1948 – 2024
Carol Jean Johnson passed away peacefully October 13, 2024 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, age 76. She was born May 3, 1948 in Brandon, Manitoba to Fred and Jean Zink, who were ecstatic to welcome their only child. She married Curtis Raymond Johnson July 18, 1970, who preceded her in death in 2017.
In 1978, Carol, Curtis, and their daughter Jennifer relocated from Minnedosa, Manitoba to Penhold, Alberta, where Carol and Curtis set down roots for the remainder of their lives. Carol began her teaching career in Manitoba, and taught first grade from 1981 – 2010 in the Red Deer Public School Division at Piper Creek Elementary School, Central Elementary School, and Grandview Elementary School. She was beloved by families, children, and colleagues alike. Any time she went out in public she could count on being stopped numerous times by people wanting to say hello and ask how she was doing. She believed in helping others both at work and through volunteer activities. She served on her local Family and Community Support Services board and was a Brownie leader. Her absolute favourite things to do were spending time with her grandchildren, her dog, Max, visiting with people, and relaxing at Carefree Resort.
It is a true testament to her personal impact that many people have been reaching out with stories about how she made their lives better, often through small acts of kindness.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Jennifer (James) Spiller of Edmonton, Alberta; grandsons Aidan Spiller and Nathaniel Spiller of Edmonton, Alberta; sister-in-law Carolyn Johnson (Larry Rawlings) of Nebraska City, Nebraska; brother-in-law Clare Johnson of Penhold, Alberta, and many friends.
A gathering will be held on Sunday, October 20th 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Hampton Inn & Suites, 128 Leva Avenue, Red Deer County, Alberta. Condolences to the family may be sent by visiting www.eventidefuneralchapels.com
