It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Constance ‘Connie’ Joan Bolding in Red Deer on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the age of 85 years. Connie was the beloved eldest child of Alfred and Erna Gerhart, born and raised in Mannville, Alberta. After graduating from High School, she attended the University of Alberta, where she earned her Nursing degree in 1960. It was in Mannville that she met her husband, Jim, and they married on October 8, 1960. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Cheryl, in 1961, followed by sons, Kent in 1963, Brian in 1967, and Mark in 1970. Connie enjoyed a fulfilling 35-year career in Nursing, working in Clinton, Ontario, Mannville, Wetaskiwin, and finally, Red Deer. She was a dedicated nurse, taking on demanding roles as both an ER Night Charge Nurse and a Day Surgery Charge Nurse. Despite her professional commitments, Connie always prioritized her family, ensuring they were well-fed, their home was spotless, and she attended all their activities. A passionate musician, Connie played the accordion, piano, and organ, and often sang with the Sunnybrook United Church Choir. She cherished the time spent visiting and socializing with her extended family and close friends. In retirement, Connie volunteered with the St. John’s Ambulance Society and worked for many years in the Arena kitchen at hockey games and the Sylvan Lake Summer Hockey Camp, where she loved serving candy and burgers to the kids. Connie was fortunate to travel extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Japan. In her later years, she especially looked forward to her regular fall visits to Vermont, where she enjoyed the autumn colors and spent time with sons, Mark and Kent, and their families. Gardening was another passion of hers; she dedicated many hours to beautifying her yard and loved watching the hummingbirds at her birdbath. Connie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Jim of Red Deer County; her daughter, Cheryl (Darcy) Ross, of Sylvan Lake; and her sons, Kent (Paige) Bolding of Bradford, Vermont; Brian (Connie) Bolding of Peachland, British Columbia; and Mark (Kari) Bolding of Northfield, Vermont; her ten grandchildren, Kyle Ross, Brendan Ross, Shae Bolding, Josh (Tanika) Bolding, Christian, Corinne, Dayne, Kylee, and Makenna Bolding, as well as her great granddaughter, Skadi. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Charles (Myrna) Gerhart, her sister, Judy Aitken, and their families. Connie was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Erna Gerhart, and her brother, Bobby.
